2024 AWARDS
$27,000.00 in cash awards to entrants in the following divisions:
- Ad Astra String Competition in memory of Richard and Jeannette Sias
- Vocal Division
- Piano Division
Boettger Piano Award
Donna Miller Piano Award
- Brass Division
- Nichols/Pirrong Percussion Division
- Woodwinds (Reeds) Division
- Woodwinds (Non-Reed) Division
- Zachritz Harp Division
College 1st Place Award - $900.00 in each category
College 2nd Place Award - $700.00 in each category
High School Winner - $600.00 in each category
Plus awards for alternates in all categories.
* Scholarship cash award is paid directly to students.
* Jurors have the option to not declare a winner in any competition.
ELIGIBILITY
Open to graduating high school seniors through college seniors. Applicants must be pursuing a music degree at an Oklahoma college/university, or have a residence in the Oklahoma City area.
REPERTOIRE
Entrant performs two selections in contrasting styles, one of which must be from the baroque or classical period, to be selected by the teacher. Songs in the popular or gospel idiom are not appropriate for this competition. (The baroque requirement above is not applicable for harp and percussion). No piano concerti are permitted.
Total performance time is limited to 10 minutes. Memorization is required for vocal and piano.
Entrant must have two copies of each music score with measures numbered for the judges.
Applicant supplies his/her own accompanist.
ENTRY PROCEDURE
Applicants must complete the application form and mail, or email to the Chairman no later than March 1, 2024. This application form may be photocopied as needed.
Applicants may enter in more than one category.
Previous first-place college winners from this competition are ineligible, but all others are encouraged to enter again.
High School students do not compete with college students.
